Warm colours, subtle prints, skinnies, flares,

crops and cuffs

The marvelous thing about denim is the world of possibilities it offers.Skinny or straight, wide or flared, high rise or low, cropped

or cuffed –the permutations are limitless. And we haven’t even begun to talk colour, print and wash.

So what’s trending for fall 2019, and how can you update your jeangame this season?Tweak it!

Nico Antonopoulos, brand manager for Yoga Jeans, offers up a crashcourse in jeaneology.First off, skinnies are here to stay. They remain the basis of mostwomen’s wardrobes because they are versatile, easy to pair with bootsand shoes – and we’re used to them. The tweak on skinnies: a clean, dark jean with no side seams. Or a highwaist.

A more marked update: the straight leg – to show you don’t have to try so hard to be sexy. Like a slouchy pant? That easy, relaxed girlfriend jean gets cuter with a cuff. High waists are trending, embraced by the young because, hey, it’s fashion – and they’re flattering. More mature types like the high waist because it holds everything in.

On another note, a laser-etched plaid is understated and sophisticated,so only close observers might notice you’re not wearing those tried andtrue faded black jeans.“Customers really love the subtle details,’’ Antonopoulos says.More ways to renew your bottom line:Bolder (but still soft) plaids on ponte stretch pants pay tribute to punk.Vegan leather leggings with tuxedo stripes.Classic chinos in cream and black. Some surprising springy colours like beige, pink, jasmine yellow and red.For a fresh take, pair them with huge knits for fall. And let’s not forget corduroy – wide-legged, in black, green, blue andrust – for ultimate cool-girl style. As for the ripped, air-conditioned styles of summer, they take a bit of abreak for fall and winter, although jeans often have small grinding detailsto give them that vintage, worn-in feel.
